Spitalfields Music Summer Festival - REPLICA world premiere |
Venue: Rich Mix Time: 7pm-8pm and 8.30pm-9.30pm Edward Jessen composer REPLICA world premiere Three dialogues. Three moments of spaciousness. Intimate dialogues from three literary sensations provide the starting point for REPLICA, Edward Jessen’s visually sumptuous experimental music-theatre work for recorder quintet Consortium5 and the voices of tenor John Potter and soprano Peyee Chen. Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient, Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr Ripley and Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain, all of which became international cinematic successes for the late film director Anthony Minghella, each feature delicate, transcendent moments where seemingly simple actions and words expose the complex frailty and emotional resilience of human nature. REPLICA unfurls these theatrically-rich layers in a stunning aural and visual realisation. With permission from the Minghella Estate, and co-operation with Charles Frazier (ICM Partners, NY); Michael Ondaatje (Susan Schulman Literary Agency, NY) and the Patricia Highsmith Estate (Diogenes Verlag AG, Zürich) Supported by PRS for
Music Foundation and Arts Council England For more information and tickets go to:http://www.spitalfieldsmusic.org.uk/whats-on/summer-festival-2013/replica/ |

The Wilding Festival |
Consortium5 premiere 3 new commissions by Roxanna Panufnik, Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian and Litha and Effy Efthymiou as part of The Wilding Festival which will mark the 100th anniversary of the death of suffragette, Emily Wilding Davison. Exploring both the life and death of this passionate suffragette, C5 contrast new works from female composers of the present day with that of women in the Renaissance period including works by Raphaela Aleotta, a nun from the San Vito convent in Italy, Maddalena Casulana, an Italian lutenist and one of the the first female composer to have music printed and last but not least the infamous Anne Boleyn. The concert takes place on the site on Emily Davison's dramatic memorial service 100 years ago for which 6000 women dressed in white and processed with her coffin through the streets of London in what was to be one of the last major suffragette demonstrations before the outbreak of WW1. This concert will also include the fantastic Folie a Deux Femme, led by clarinetist Charlotte Webber, including works by Hollie HArding and Jesse Bescoby. Time:2.30pm Venue: St George's Bloomsbury, Bloomsbury Way, London Tickets: £10 - To go on sale on the 7th May. See www.thewildingfestival.co.uk This event is generously supported by the PRSF Women Make Music Fund and the RVW Trust.
